A Meet the Candidates Forum

June 22, 2010

North Kingstown, RI:  RIVC and The Patriots of South County are pleased to announce a Meet The Candidates Forum scheduled June 22, 2010.

This event feature races for RI’s South County Legislative seats, including all candidates for both Senate and House of Representatives.  This event will also feature a review of aspirants for Rhode Island’s Second Congressional seat, which is currently held by James Langevin.

The event is to be presented at the RI Quahog Company Restaurant, 1065 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown, RI 02852.    Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the Forum is scheduled to begin at 7:00 pm that evening.

The Rhode Island Voters Coalition is a non-partisan alliance of groups such as the Patriots of South County and individuals, wherein interested voters can vet the candidates who are campaigning for office in this fall’s election.  While making today’s announcement Mr. Steven Wright said, “RIVC was organized to coordinate efforts of the newly energized voter groups with those of longer standing good government organizations.”  He went on to list Patriots of South County, Rhode Islanders for Immigration Law Enforcement, the Rhode Island Statewide Coalition, We The People of RI, and a number of local Tea Party Coalitions as participants in these events throughout the 2010 political campaign.  The object is to ensure that voters have as many chances as possible to see and hear candidates, among whom they will need to make a choice.

Candidates for the June 22nd event are invited regardless of party affiliations, or their status as incumbent or challenger.  “We are a non-partisan group of citizens who have determined that our government and political parties are not properly representing us.  We require information from all candidates, as to how they will help positively impact RI’s  business environment and fiscal well being,  after being elected  in the November 2nd 2010” elections..

Candidates for RI’s 2nd Congressional seat are invited, including Rep. James Langevin, challengers, Mark Zaccaria, Michael Gardiner, William (Bill) Clegg and Elizabeth (Betsy) Dennigan, Democrat challenger.  We are actively working to include candidates for the Attorney General’s office as well.

This is an RSVP event.

East Greenwich lawyer Robert E. Rainville, a lobbyist and former probate court judge in West Warwick, announced Friday that he will be a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Rhode Island attorney general.

A self-described “conservative Democrat,” Rainville said he wants the office, in part, to demonstrate that it can be run in a nonpartisan way and in the public interest.

Rainville said the electorate must remember there is much more to the post of attorney general than crime-fighting, and he said that he would emphasize consumer protection on issues such as health insurance rates and fraud, as well as the prosecution of white-collar crime and political corruption.  Read More

PROVIDENCE — A second Republican is on the verge of announcing his candidacy for governor.

Tax accountant and former state Rep. Victor Moffitt confirmed Thursday that he intends to announce his candidacy for governor on April 15, which, not entirely coincidentally, is the deadline for filing tax returns.

At that point, Moffitt, 60, of Coventry said he will roll out an updated version of the three R’s — “Reduce, Replace and Reform” — that he first unveiled when he ran for state treasurer on the Reform Party ticket in 1998.

“I will be laying out my entire tax program on April 15,” said Moffitt, who opted against running for reelection in 2008 after serving three terms in the House of Representatives.  Read the Story
